Offering holistic, evidence-informed care for hormones, fertility and optimal wellness.
My Approach
I’m Dr. Tara Hanaphy (TCM), a registered Chinese Medicine practitioner, acupuncturist & herbalist with a background in psychology.
My work brings together Traditional Chinese Medicine and an evidence-informed clinical approach to provide thoughtful, individualised care. I support women and men who are navigating concerns related to fertility, menstrual cycle health, pregnancy, digestion, sleep, stress and emotional wellbeing.
I understand that many people seeking support in these areas can feel unheard or overwhelmed. My approach is gentle, considered and tailored to each individual’s presentation. Consultations may include acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, and personalised dietary and lifestyle guidance, with a focus on supporting balance and regulation across the nervous, digestive and reproductive systems within the scope of Chinese Medicine practice.
I offer in-person acupuncture consultations in North Melbourne & Fitzroy, as well as telehealth appointments for herbal, dietary and lifestyle support.

Soon I will be offering telehealth consultations Australia-wide. These appointments include personalised guidance on herbs, supplements, diet, lifestyle, and emotional wellbeing. Everything is tailored to your specific presentation, and herbs or supplements (if prescribed) are posted directly to your door. If acupuncture is recommended, you’ll need an in person appointment slot.
Sign up to my newsletter to be informed for when these appointments open up. -
Acupuncture is hands-on and done in person (think fine needles, tailored point selection, and deep relaxation) to achieve your desired health goals.
A telehealth consultation is where we deep-dive into your symptoms, history, and lifestyle, and create a plan involving herbal medicine, supplements, and diet.
Both are powerful on their own and even better when combined.

Chinese herbal medicine is a personalised system of plant-based formulas used to support the body's natural balance. It is based on Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) principles and considers your unique presentation rather than focusing only on a diagnosis.
I prescribe practitioner-grade formulas that may assist with symptoms related to hormonal cycles, digestion, sleep, energy and general wellbeing. Herbs are dispensed through licensed Australian pharmacies and are available as granules or capsules, depending on your preference.
-
Yes, if you have extras cover that includes Chinese Medicine or acupuncture, you may be eligible for a rebate on in-person acupuncture sessions. Rebates vary depending on your provider and level of cover.
Herbal consultations and telehealth appointments are not currently claimable under most private health funds.
I recommend checking with your provider directly to confirm what’s included in your policy before your appointment.
-
Yes, absolutely. I work with male patients often particularly around fertility, digestive health, sleep, stress, and energy. Chinese Medicine is inclusive and effective for all bodies.
-
Definitely. I often work alongside other health professionals as part of an integrative approach. Collaboration is key. I believe the best results come when your care is cohesive and centred around your needs.
-
It really depends on your goals, how long you’ve had symptoms, and how your body responds. Some patients for more acute conditions just need a couple of sessions, while others with more chronic health conditions benefit from ongoing care over several months. We’ll discuss this at your first appointment so you know what to expect.
-
Just bring yourself and anything you feel might be helpful to understanding your health story. If you have recent blood tests, hormone panels, ultrasound reports or any other relevant pathology results, feel free to bring them along or email them through beforehand.
These help me understand your presentation from both a Traditional Chinese Medicine and functional health perspective, and can guide a more tailored treatment plan.
